Hundreds of students across the Seattle School District walked out of their classes Wednesday afternoon to join a rally at the University of Washington in protest of state education budget cuts. The Seattle Public School District issued a statement today stating that they are withdrawing their proposed policy on student newspapers. The controversial proposal would have given school principals the authority to review high school newspapers before they were published and pull them from publication if they believed the content to be libelous in nature.

The last day of the 2011 school year for elementary and K-8 students is Tuesday, June 21 and for middle and high schools is Thursday, June 23.
