According to the Seattle Police Department’s blog, at 4:18 p.m. officers spotted a stolen Chevy Blazer headed southbound on Roosevelt Way NE at NE 55th Street. Police pursued, but the suspect not only refused to stop, he “accelerated away and drove into on-coming traffic going southbound on Roosevelt Way NE.”
The suspect drove southbound on University Way NE into on-coming traffic where he collided into a Metro bus and a blue Saturn station wagon just north NE 45th Street on University Way NE.
After the collision, police say the suspect got out of his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Officers apprehended the man in the 4100 block of 15th Avenue Northeast, about 4 blocks from the scene of the accident. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital where he was under police guard. Once released from the hospital, he’ll be booked into King County Jail on multiple charges, which according to police may include: felony theft (from the original incident), felony eluding, auto theft, hit & run collision, obstructing a police officer, and an active DUI arrest warrant out of Auburn.
Two passengers and the driver of one of the Metro buses were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Nobody in the Saturn was injured, but the driver of that car just happened to have a camera mounted on his dashboard and captured the moment of impact (video courtesy of KIRO7 Seattle):
