Update 11/24 at 10:10 p.m.: I LOVE YOU GUYS. Because of all of your generous donations, we raised $1,661 for local food banks. More to come shortly in a longer post!!

URGENT PLEA: All foodbanks are hurting. We’ll keep making parka pics as long as you are willing to donate. Please donate to ANY foodbank of your choosing and help FILL THE SHELVES! I’ve added more links below in case you’re looking for options!

Our Roosiehood smiley face loves to dress up for special occasions, but when we added a lovely parka with fur trim last weekend, we didn’t realize how popular it would get. KING5′s Tracy Taylor was among the first to don a Roosiehood Parka, then pretty soon, other cold Twitterers were asking to be outfitted in winter storm gear. We outfitted Bartell Drugs and the WSDOT. Then Monica Guzman asked for a parka, and then posted a story about the #ParkaParty hashtag.

The #ParkaParty was in full swing during the howling winds last night, with a final #ParkaParty masterpiece going out to Paolo Mottola, who had been stuck in the I-5 commute for nearly 8 hours.

Fun is fun, but there are people out there without warm coats, food, or even shelter. I want to turn our #ParkaParty into something GOOD for the community, so here’s what I’m suggesting:

I’ll make you your very own #ParkaParty avatar if you donate $10 or more to a local shelter, food bank, or other organization that is actively helping people in Seattle. Since I’m a hyperlocal blog, I’d love it if you’d donate to the University Food Bank, but I want people to feel free to donate to one of their choice.

• Smile! We’ll use your Twitter photo if it’s big enough or, if you prefer, send us a link to a photo of you looking straight at the camera.
• I will try to turn your #ParkaParty pic around within an hour of receiving your receipt and we’ll add your #ParkaParty photo to our Flickr set.
